Located in a 17th-century building in the heart of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, this atypical apartment—organized into three distinct sections—underwent a complete restructuring. Comprising a main apartment and an outbuilding, the property is centered around an outdoor space that brings together a patio and a terrace.

Conceived as a true seaside retreat, the architectural intervention expands the volumes, modernizes the spaces, and improves circulation, while creating a harmonious dialogue between interior and exterior through the use of materials.

Originally, the spaces were compartmentalized, dark, and lacked modern comfort. The outdoor areas were also cluttered. However, the architectural potential of the property made it possible to create a space that truly reflects the owners’ vision.

A major structural transformation was carried out in the main apartment to open up the spaces and maximize natural light. The entrance now leads to a spacious living room open onto a fully equipped kitchen. Oak flooring brings warmth to the space, while terracotta tiles laid in a herringbone pattern define the kitchen and extend into the outdoor patio. This aesthetic and practical detail visually enlarges the kitchen and creates continuity with the exterior.

A master bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and dressing room has been created, along with an intimate office space and a separate laundry and pantry area. Every square meter has been optimized through the integration of numerous bespoke storage solutions designed to conceal and organize.

The outdoor areas have been simplified, refined, and made fully functional through the creation of a slab covered with porcelain stoneware tiles, surrounded by vegetation.

The outbuilding has also been reconfigured to accommodate two separate bedrooms, each with its own bathroom and dressing room, offering complete independence for future occupants.

This renovation reflects a bespoke, modern, and functional approach to contemporary living, placing at its core the freedom to fully embrace outdoor living.
