Located in the heart of Old Bayonne, this 250 sqm duplex apartment underwent a complete renovation.

The architectural intervention reimagines and redistributes the existing volumes with a contemporary approach, while preserving the original features. Elements inspired by Japanese design have been thoughtfully integrated into the project, a deliberate nod to the owners’ deep connection to Japan, where they once lived and developed a lasting passion.

The interior architecture is built around a play of perspectives, fluid circulation, and soft partitioning, creating a modular apartment that seamlessly balances reception areas with private living spaces.

The entrance, designed as an intimate space, incorporates extensive bespoke storage with mirrored fronts. A private elevator provides direct access to the center of the apartment, opening into a vestibule flooded with natural light thanks to its connection to a large terrace. This outdoor space is accessible through expansive glass doors fitted with custom-designed shōji screens—traditional Japanese sliding panels crafted in varnished oak and rice paper by a renowned cabinetmaker.

Beyond this, a sequence of reception spaces unfolds, including living rooms, a library, a home cinema, and an office, all punctuated by striking bespoke furniture. The integration of concealed pocket doors allows for flexible privacy and spatial adaptability.

Surrounding these areas, three bedrooms have been designed as independent suites, each with its own private bathroom and a generous custom-built dressing room seamlessly integrated into the space.

Walls finished in a warm white tone enhance the natural beauty of the wood elements, complemented by carefully considered and harmonious lighting design. A curated scenography showcases an extensive art collection of paintings and engravings, while custom plinths highlight sculptural works.

This renovation fully reflects the personality of its owners, giving the apartment a unique character, while the bespoke approach ensures it perfectly meets the demands of everyday living.
